TELUS Leverages Handmark Data ARPU Solutions

TELUS Mobility is a leading Canadian telecommunications provider for wireless voice, data and Internet services to business and consumer clients via two state-of-the-art digital wireless networks: PCS and Mike. In 2007, TELUS sought to extend offerings to its subscribers, and to increase ARPU (average revenue per user), by providing a wireless portal to deliver content, games, ringtones, themes and other smartphone applications.

TELUS turned to Handmark for help in achieving this goal. In October 2007, the award-winning Pocket Express client launched to all BlackBerry, Palm OS and Windows Mobile TELUS devices. In addition, TELUS introduced a new Handmark-powered desktop store, using the expertise of the Handmark publishing and aggregation services to bring branded content to smartphone customers. Both Pocket Express and the desktop store connect with carrier billing services in order to make the customer experience simple and convenient- with purchases going directly to their operator bill.

TELUS reported immediate success with impressive activation rates and usage. This led to an opportunity to enter into a second phase of the partnership to increase ARPU and adoption of the services even further, growing the business to record numbers.

August 2008 marked the phase two launch- featuring a co-branded version of Pocket Express named "TELUS Portal by Pocket Express". This unique portal leverages TELUS specific branding- includes a new storefront, serving as the distribution channel for TELUS-branded applications and third party content such as games, applications, ringtones and themes. In addition, Pocket Express is offered as a preload on TELUS smartphones.

A distinguishable feature in the new TELUS Portal by Pocket Express is the customization features. Customers can choose the user interface to be in either French or English, as well as News, Sports and Stocks available in both languages as well.

Handmark and TELUS will continue to provide the Canadian market with innovative wireless solutions for its customers, in addition to meeting and exceeding business goals.
