- Sort the list of checklists by "dragging and dropping"
- Add, delete, and modify checklist items
- Add a note to a checklist or a checklist item
- Prioritize checklist items
- Sort checklist items by priority or alphabetically
- Purge completed checklist items
- Show all the items in the checklist or just the "unchecked" items
- Import and Export checklists to a memo for editing on the PC
- Copy a checklist (all items, checked items, unchecked items)
- Beam a checklist (all items, checked items, unchecked items)
- Display number of checked vs. total number of items in a checklist

System Requirements

To use Checklist, you need a PalmOS Computing (R) Platform with Palm OS 3.0 or above. PalmOS v1.0 and v2.0 are not supported.  Handmark has not fully tested Checklist with any 3rd-party memory boards, accessories, or operating system hacks.  Therefore, use these in conjunction with Checklist at your own risk.

Using Checklist

Start up

To begin using Handmark Checklist, simply tap the Checklist icon on your application screen. Enter your product serial number on the serial number screen and you're ready to build your first checklist.

The main Checklist screen is called the Checklists List View. By default, Checklist will always launch into this view.  If you exit Checklist while actually in a checklist, the same checklist is automatically displayed the next time you launch Checklist.  This makes it wasy for you to access the same checklist repeatedly without having to select the specific checklist each time.

Checklists List View

The checklist list view (entitled "Checklist") allows you to select or create a new checklist. The number in parentheses besides each checklist title indicates how many items are still unchecked on that list.

To display a checklist, simply tap the checklist name.

To create a new checklist

  1. Tap New on the list of checklist list view. The Checklist Name box appears.
  2. Enter a checklist name, then tap OK.
  3. (optional) Check Private to mark the list as private. This allows you to hide records using a security application.
  4. (optional) To assign a specific category to the list you just created, tap a category from the Category drop-down list at the top-right of the screen.

To set Checklist preferences

  1. Tap the menu icon, then tap Preferences on the Options menu. The Preferences box appears.
  2. Check Show Priority to display the priorities of checklist items.
  3. Check Show Checked to display checklist items that have been "checked off" or completed.

Checklist View

Once you have selected or created a list from the Checklist List View, you can edit individual checklists from the Checklist View. The title bar displays the number of checked items as well as the total number of checklist items.

  • To change the name of a checklist, tap the checklist name, then enter a new name in the Checklist Name box that appears.

  • To delete the entire checklist, tap the menu icon, then tap Delete List on the List menu.
  • To make a copy of the current list, tap the menu icon, then tap Copy List on the List menu.

Importing & Exporting using Memo Pad

You can import Memo Pad items into Checklist, as well as export checklists to Memo Pad. Checklists can then be edited and archived on the desktop or shared with other Checklist users.

Please Note: If you only want to backup your lists, not edit them on the desktop, simply use the normal Hot Sync procedure. This will create a file named CheckItDB.PDB in your backup directory on the PC. This file can be reinstalled on your Palm OS device similar to any other application or database file in case of a data loss.

Exporting Checklists
To export a checklist to the Memo Pad, select the list, then tap Export List on the List menu. This creates a note in Memo Pad under the category "unfiled" with the same title as the exported checklist. The syntax of the note is as follows:

Title|note for the list
[ ] 1 an unchecked item
[ ] 1 another unchecked item
[·] 1 a checked item
[ ] 1 an unchecked item|with a note text
[ ] 2 an unchecked item with another priority
[ ] 1 an unchecked item that
spans several lines|and also
has a note with more
than one line.
[ ] 1 an unchecked item

Note: The "[ ]" is used as a checkbox in Memo Pad since there is no character for a checkbox. You can edit this memo in your Palm OS application on your PC and check items by adding a "·" between the brackets.

Importing Checklists
Checklist allows you to either import an entire list, or simply import items by adding them to an existing list.

To import a complete list

  1. From the Checklist List View, tap the menu icon, then tap Import List on the List menu.
  2. Tap to select the Memo Pad item you want to import, then tap Import.

To import a Memo Pad item into an existing checklist

  1. Display an existing checklist, then tap Import List on the List menu.
  2. Tap to select the Memo Pad item you want to import, then tap Import.

The export-syntax should be kept when editing lists on the PC. However, the Import feature is quite flexible to correctly read in other syntax's, too:

Checklist name|note for the list
· Item|note
· another item|another note
· an item without note
· an item
that spans
several lines|and also
has a note with more than one line.
· an item

You could also use "-" to mark the items:

Checklist name|note for the list
- Item|note
- another item|another note
- an item without note
- an item
that spans
several lines|and also
has a note with more than one line.
- an item

You can also omit any mark for the items. In this case, however, you cannot have items with more than one line and you can't have a note for the list. The first line will be used as the title of the checklist.

Checklist name Item|note
another item|another note
an item without note
an item that spans several lines is NOT possible here
an item
